Energy Use Modeling and Testing
Title 24 Compliance
In California, Title 24 governs the design and construction of all building occupancies and associated facilities and equipment throughout the state. It contains requirements for structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and requires measures for energy conservation, sustainable design, construction & maintenance, fire & life safety, and accessibility. All California cities and counties are required by state law to enforce Title 24.
HERS Testing
Administered by the California Energy Commission, the Home Energy Rating System, commonly referred to as HERS, tests the energy performance of a home, later granting a rating. This rating is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to insulation, ventilation, and HVAC systems.
CalGreen
The California Green Building Standards Code (referred to as CALGreen) is state-mandated green building standards code. It was established in an effort to meet the goals of California’s landmark initiative AB 32, which established a comprehensive program of cost-effective reductions of greenhouse gasses to 1990 levels by 2020.
The purpose of the CalGreen Rating is to improve public health, safety, and general welfare through enhanced building design and construction. It promotes principles which have a positive environmental impact and encourages sustainable construction practices.
